10 Things to Check Before Hiring a Construction Company
18 May 2026 · Vastoshpati Constructions
Choosing a construction company is the highest-stakes decision of your building journey. The right partner delivers a decades-long asset; the wrong one delivers stress, overruns, and rework. Run every builder — including us — through this checklist before signing.
The 10-point checklist
1. Registration and identity — verify the firm's registration, GST, and office address. A real office signals a real business.
2. Portfolio and site visits — ask to visit a current site. The state of an active site tells you more than any brochure.
3. Client references — speak to at least two past or current clients about communication and delivery.
4. Detailed BOQ — a professional builder gives you an itemised bill of quantities, not a single lump-sum figure.
5. Material brands in writing — cement, steel, wiring, pipes, sanitaryware, and paint brands should be specified in the agreement.
6. Milestone-linked payments — payments should follow construction progress, never calendar dates or verbal requests.
7. Defined timeline with buffer — a credible schedule includes stage-wise durations and a stated handover window.
8. Supervision structure — ask who is on site daily, and who you call when there is a problem.
9. Quality checks — ask how concrete, steel, and waterproofing are tested and documented at each stage.
10. Handover and support — confirm what documentation you receive and what post-handover support is included.
The underlying principle
Every point above tests the same thing: transparency. A builder who is organised on paper before the project starts is far more likely to be organised on site. At Vastoshpati Constructions, this checklist is simply how we operate — ask us any of these questions at your first consultation.
